Case Study: HYCET achieves improved gearbox efficiency and reduced mechanical failures with Altair nanoFluidX

HYCET uses nanoFluidX to improve gearbox efficiency and avoid mechanical failures

HYCET Transmission Technology Hebei Co. Ltd (HYCET), a developer and manufacturer of transmission systems for EVs and HEVs, faced recurring gearbox mechanical failures (pitting, erosion, peeling) driven by insufficient lubrication, high churning losses at up to 20,000 rpm, windage, oil volume and aeration issues. Historically reliant on physical tests and engineer experience with long design cycles, HYCET turned to Altair for advanced CFD-driven insight using Altair® nanoFluidX® and Altair® SimLab®.

Altair implemented a GPU-accelerated SPH workflow that let HYCET generate SPH models from complex CAD in less than a day, run remote GPU simulations, and evaluate oil droplet paths, oil collectors, breathe-hole leaks, high‑RPM aeration and heat-transfer effects. Using Altair’s tools, HYCET cut back on physical gearbox testing, captured richer oiling metrics (flow rate, hydrodynamic torque, contact time, heat transfer coefficient), reduced design turnaround time and costs, and now designs more efficient, reliable gearboxes faster.
