How Serapid Accounts for Supplier Parts in Altair SimSolid™

Serapid, a developer of telescopic mechanical actuators, faced the challenge of simulating support platforms that include supplier-provided dummy geometries (skins without internal content) and known masses. They needed to load complete structure models with the weights of installed devices, a process that could be slow and tedious if done by applying many Remote Loads in Altair SimSolid.

To solve this, Serapid used Altair’s SimSolid Rigid Part functionality to mark dummy parts as rigid and assign their masses, and applied Gravity in the Structural analysis workbench. Altair SimSolid then automatically accounts for the gravity loads on those dummy parts and transfers them to the structure, speeding setup compared with individual remote-load applications and enabling accurate platform sizing and material optimization that reduces cost.
