Gestamp Automocion, a global automotive components manufacturer, needed a more automated way to produce minimum‑mass sheet‑metal chassis components that met performance targets and manufacturing constraints for lighter, more fuel‑efficient vehicles. To address this, Gestamp partnered with Altair, leveraging Altair ProductDesign’s process automation expertise and the HyperWorks simulation suite.

Altair implemented the jointly developed eDICT system — a combination of custom design tools and HyperWorks optimization that generates optimum material “skeletons,” guides conversion to manufacturable sheet‑metal designs, tracks efficiency, and supports re‑optimization. The Altair solution reversed the traditional CAD‑then‑CAE workflow and delivered measurable impact: up to 25% mass reductions on chassis components versus current series designs, plus reduced development time and resources.
