Flexibility and Cost Efficiency in Automotive Development

HBPO GmbH, a global specialist in developing and manufacturing complete automotive front-end modules, faced the challenge of delivering highly complex assemblies—combining headlights, cooling systems and crash-management components—quickly and cost‑efficiently while needing many different CAE tools that are only used sporadically. To meet these needs HBPO turned to Altair and the Altair Partner Alliance (APA)/HyperWorks licensing model to access applications such as Moldex3D, KEY to METALS, MADYMO, OptiStruct, HyperMesh and RADIOSS without purchasing full licenses for each tool.

Altair’s solution—floating HyperWorks units and APA on‑demand access—enabled HBPO to run topology optimization, material selection, molding and safety simulations as needed. Using Altair tools and APA partner applications, HBPO reduced material use, cut the number of physical prototypes (in some cases eliminating them), shortened development time and lowered software and development costs, delivering clear ROI and improved engineering flexibility.
