Faster Design Changes with HyperWorks’ Morphing Technology

PSA Peugeot Citroen faced a bottleneck in engine development where design changes to exhaust manifolds required a three‑week evaluation loop between the OEM and its supplier, leading to few iterations and potential misinterpretation of CAE-suggested improvements. To address this, PSA used Altair’s HyperWorks morphing technology (HyperMorph) within HyperMesh to enable rapid, mesh‑based shape changes without intermediate CAD revisions.

Altair’s solution let PSA’s CAE engineers apply morphing edits directly to the mesh, cutting the evaluation cycle from about three weeks to two days, eliminating most supplier misinterpretations and reducing CAD churn. The workflow produced measurable gains: manifold lifetime rose from 273 h to 362 h (+39%), only a single final CAD revision is needed, and many more design variants can be evaluated in the same timeframe.
