Case Study: Faraone achieves 20% weight reduction and faster, stiffer balustrade profiles with Altair's solidThinking Inspire

A Altair Case Study

Faraone accelerates the design approach for lighter and stiffer architectural components with premium technology

Faraone, an Italian maker of architectural components, needed a lighter, stiffer aluminum profile for a full-glass balustrade while cutting development time, material use, and production costs. To meet these goals the company worked with Altair and adopted the solidThinking Inspire optimization and simulation tools to drive a new design approach.

Using Altair’s solidThinking Inspire, Faraone ran topology optimization from a simple starting profile, refined the form with designers, and validated performance in-house, including static and buckling checks. The Altair solution delivered about 20% weight savings (roughly 1.5 kg saved per linear meter from an initial ~7 kg), reduced costs, shortened development time, and produced an outstanding ROI for Faraone.
