A Altair Case Study
DSA is an ocean engineering consultancy and software company that develops the hydrodynamic analysis packages ProteusDS and ShipMo3D. They faced persistent difficulty creating high-quality, closed-surface meshes in CAD for boundary-element and time-domain hydrodynamic analyses, which led to simulation errors, costly re-work, and slowed project delivery. To address this, DSA turned to Altair and its HyperWorks toolset, notably Altair HyperMesh.
Using Altair HyperMesh to generate and refine hull and buoy meshes (and leveraging Altair AcuSolve and Altair Virtual Wind Tunnel to produce hydrodynamic coefficients), DSA was able to import optimized meshes into ShipMo3D and ProteusDS for accurate RAOs, mooring loads, and motion simulations. Altair’s tools reduced mesh-related re-work, sped up simulation run times, saved engineering hours, and made consulting projects more profitable while improving analysis accuracy and lowering operational risk.
