Case Study: Seaflex validates elastic mooring simulations and accelerates design with Altair's ProteusDS

A Altair Case Study

Preview of the Seaflex Case Study

Development of advanced Seaflex mooring system simulation capability in ProteusDS

Seaflex, the maker of the Seaflex elastic mooring system, needed accurate numerical simulation of its viscoelastic, hysteretic hawser-based moorings to predict time‑history dependent responses to wind, waves, and currents for marina and offshore applications. To validate the technology and reduce design and insurance risk, Seaflex engaged Altair to extend ProteusDS simulation capability to represent the unique Seaflex behavior and support rapid design of mooring installations.

Altair implemented a Seaflex mooring model in ProteusDS, created a setup tool for marina simulations, validated key features (including the yellow ByPass safety system and nonlinear loading/unloading), and provided training and support. As a result, Altair enabled Seaflex to predict system response under wind, wave, and current loading, speed up design iterations, de‑risk projects for clients and insurers, and maintain in‑house modeling capability backed by ongoing vendor support.
