Development of advanced Seaflex mooring system simulation capability in ProteusDS

Dynamic Systems Analysis (DSA) needed to validate that ProteusDS could accurately simulate Seaflex AB’s elastic, viscoelastic mooring system and predict its response to wind, waves and currents for marina and offshore applications. The key technical challenge was representing Seaflex’s hysteretic, time‑dependent axial rigidity and unique loading/unloading behavior in a numerical model. Altair was engaged to apply ProteusDS simulation services to address these modelling challenges and enable rapid design of Seaflex installations.

Altair implemented the Seaflex mooring model in ProteusDS, built a user tool for setting up marina simulations, validated critical features (including the yellow ByPass safety system and hysteretic response), and provided training and support. As a result, ProteusDS now predicts Seaflex system responses under full wind/wave/current conditions, giving Seaflex in‑house capability to model a wide range of applications, reduce design uncertainty, de‑risk installations, and support safer, lower‑cost projects.
