Developing a Customized Solution to Significantly Reduce Costly Pre-processing Activities

Mabe, a Mexico-based appliance manufacturer, struggled with a bottleneck in refrigerator door foam modeling (RDFM) that made drop-test pre-processing slow and error-prone, causing CAE results and energy-use estimates to be inaccurate. To solve meshing voids and speed model preparation, Mabe engaged Altair (through Altair ProductDesign) and leveraged Altair’s tools and expertise, including the Impact Simulation Director.

Altair ProductDesign delivered a customized workflow that automatically fills voids, extends contacting faces, stitches gaps, and produces refined hex volume meshes for foam and components. The Altair solution reduced foam pre-processing time by 50%, enabled earlier error detection, supported more complex and accurate meshes, and allowed Mabe’s engineers to spend more time on product improvements.
