Case Study: VTT achieves accurate component-level SLM distortion prediction and print-failure insight with Altair's AM simulation solution

Component level simulation of selective laser melting process

VTT needed accurate additive manufacturing (AM) process simulation to incorporate into its design-for-AM workflow. Working with Altair, VTT evaluated several AM simulation tools and tested Additive Works' Amphyon software to assess component-level behavior during selective laser melting.

Altair-supported testing implemented Amphyon as the chosen simulation solution; it delivered component-level geometric distortion predictions that closely matched measured values, identified potential print failures from recoater contact, and proved easy to learn and use—enabling VTT to confidently adopt process simulation in its design-for-AM workflow.
