C-TEC - Customer Case Study

C-TEC, a German developer and producer of intelligent machines and systems, faced the need to optimize the aerodynamics of box utility vehicles to meet the stricter WLTP fuel-efficiency and emissions standards but lacked CFD experience and access to multi‑GPU HPC hardware. To address this, C-TEC partnered with Altair and used the Altair® Unlimited™ virtual appliance on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (running Altair® ultraFluidX®) to access turnkey, GPU‑accelerated simulation resources without building on‑premises HPC.

Altair delivered a fully managed cloud appliance that let C-TEC run ultraFluidX on NVIDIA A100 GPUs, enabling rapid aerodynamic redesigns that retained vehicle functionality. The project produced measurable results: up to 42% drag reduction, roughly 27% test‑drive fuel savings on motorway driving, and about 49% cost savings; it also avoided on‑premises capex by converting costs to opex and allowed C-TEC to add aerodynamic optimization to its permanent portfolio. Altair’s solution provided the performance, scalability, and ease of use C-TEC needed to execute the work successfully.
