A Altair Case Study
Bottpower, a Valencia-based motorsport engineering company, needed a lightweight stay bracket for a motorbike that could withstand primary and aerodynamic loads and be ready in time for the Addit3D 3D-print fair. The team used Altair software—Altair HyperWorks™ for FEA, Altair Virtual Wind Tunnel (VWT) for CFD and aerodynamic loading, Altair Inspire™ for topology optimization, plus Altair HyperMesh™ and Altair SimLab™ for meshing and virtual testing—to find the optimal weight‑to‑stiffness solution quickly.
Using Altair, the engineers ran VWT simulations at 300 km/h to determine aerodynamic loads, used Inspire to remove excess material within the design envelope while keeping a safety factor, and validated stress, deformation and safety factors with HyperMesh and SimLab. The Altair-driven workflow produced a bracket that fit perfectly, complemented surrounding components, and was lighter and stronger than previous versions—delivering notable weight reduction, increased strength and more predictable behavior while accelerating development for the show.
