Automating the Simulation Process at AMCOR

Amcor, a global leader in rigid plastics packaging, needed to automate its simulation pre‑processing so engineers could generate input decks for multiple load cases from a single process template and reduce time spent on manual model setup. To address this, Amcor engaged Altair (via Altair ProductDesign and its Enterprise Solution Group) and adopted Altair’s Impact Simulation Director alongside its HyperWorks workflow.

Altair implemented the Impact Simulation Director to automate geometry import, simplification, meshing, material assignment, interference fixes and solver deck creation for tests like empty vented top load, filled capped top load, vacuum response and fill pressure. The automation reduced pre‑processing from hours to minutes, improved pre‑processing efficiency by about 60%, lowered user errors and freed Amcor engineers to focus more on research and development; Altair and Amcor are continuing refinements to expand automation.
