Andron Handling uses Altair SimSolid™ in Design Development of Bespoke Mechanical Equipment

Andron Handling Ltd., a U.K. designer of bespoke mechanical handling equipment, faced the challenge of assessing the strength of a welded fabrication and vertical clamping arms for lifting and clamping loads on a custom wheel-transfer handler. To meet tight space and performance constraints they used Altair’s SimSolid to evaluate the full assembly and loading conditions.

Using Altair SimSolid, the full 530-part assembly was modeled with sliding connections and clamping forces applied to piston rods with matching reactions on cylinder bodies; no special CAD preparation was required and the simulation ran in under 50 seconds, enabling multiple iterations. Results showed reaction forces at the lifting eye within 1.5% of theoretical, a predicted safety factor of 8.7 against yield for the clamping arms, and a total analysis turnaround of about 1.5 hours — demonstrating Altair delivered fast, accurate validation and improved design throughput.
