Case Study: Renault achieves 8% lighter powertrain and 30% NVH & fatigue improvement with Altair

A Altair Case Study

Preview of the Renault Case Study

An Innovative Approach to Lighter and More Efficient Powertrains

Renault, one of Europe’s largest automotive manufacturers, sought to reduce powertrain weight and improve engine performance (NVH and durability) to meet tightening fuel economy and emissions targets. Already using Altair’s simulation tools, Renault’s powertrain division engaged Altair to develop optimization methods and processes for component- and sub-system-level redesign.

Altair delivered its HyperWorks suite (including SimLab, OptiStruct and HyperStudy) and engineering support via Altair ProductDesign to automate model building, run DOE studies and perform topology optimization. The approach produced an 8% weight reduction, a 30% improvement in NVH and fatigue performance and a 60% gain in modeling efficiency, yielding a best-in-class powertrain and shorter development cycles.
