A Altair Case Study
Ametek was contracted by Lockheed Martin to develop a portable flight-suit chiller unit for the Joint Strike Fighter program and faced a tight schedule, complex multi-loop control requirements, strict power limits and rigorous safety/verification standards. To meet these challenges Ametek used Altair’s model-based development tool solidThinking Embed to design and test the embedded control system for the Personal Cooling Unit (PCU).
Using Altair’s solidThinking Embed, Ametek built block‑diagram plant and controller models, auto-generated ANSI C for a TI C2000 target, and ran model-in-the-loop, processor-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop tests with linked requirement traceability. The approach validated the design before committing to hardware, met development targets and SEAL verification requirements, streamlined code generation and testing, and accelerated development while producing timestamped evidence of validation.
