A Altair Case Study
Tgen (Translational Genomics Research Institute) needed a vendor-supported, flexible job-scheduling solution for its 512-node production cluster Saguaro to accelerate translation of genomic discoveries into diagnostics and therapies. To meet that challenge they selected Altair’s PBS Professional workload manager to run the High Performance Biocomputing Center (HPBC) at ASU.
Altair’s PBS Professional enabled flexible scheduling and accounting — running large parallel jobs (e.g., across 128 nodes) alongside thousands of small serial jobs — while proving dependable and easy to maintain. As a result, Saguaro now serves about 65 accounts and executes thousands of BLAST/AMBER/Gaussian and in-house jobs with high utilization and minimal admin effort (reinstalling PBS Professional took about 20 minutes); Altair’s features such as job arrays and automatic job recovery are being evaluated to further reduce downtime.
