A Altair Case Study
Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, a five-time America’s Cup competitor preparing for AC37, needed to find new performance gains within the updated AC75 rules and component limits after their AC36 advances. To do this they turned to Altair, expanding from prior use of Altair’s simulation tools to the full Altair suite—structural simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), data analytics, digital twin solutions—and on-site Altair engineering experts.
Altair worked alongside the team to run parallel optimization tasks with HPC, build a four-step digital twin fed by boat-mounted sensors for “virtual structural health,” and accelerate component screening. The result was significantly reduced simulation time, faster identification of top optimization candidates (in a fraction of the previous time), more design iterations, and an improved AC75 design—giving Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli a streamlined development cycle and a competitive edge heading into the America’s Cup.
