ABB in Spain needed to improve the fatigue performance of its Twin Robot Xbar (TRX), a robotic part-transfer system that moves components between manufacturing stations. To support simulation-driven design and address the engineering challenges in robotics, ABB enlisted Altair ProductDesign’s regional team and the simulation tools and expertise of Altair.

Altair used simulation tools to analyze the TRX, identify stress hotspots and fatigue drivers, and guide targeted design changes to improve fatigue life. Altair’s work led to measurable improvements in the TRX’s fatigue performance and overall durability and reliability; specific quantitative metrics were not disclosed.
