Case Study: Toulouse Genopole achieves faster, more efficient genomics research with Altair PBS Professional

A Faster Path to Genomics Research Results

Toulouse Genopole, the regional genomics research hub hosted at the INRA computing center, was struggling with a rapidly growing number of complete genome sequences and a bioinformatics workload made up of large numbers of small, uncorrelated jobs. To improve processor utilization and scale its compute infrastructure, Toulouse Genopole turned to Altair and its PBS Professional workload manager.

Altair deployed PBS Professional with the Job Arrays feature on an upgraded cluster (brought to 96 processors), virtualizing resources and allowing groups of thousands — even millions — of small jobs to be submitted and managed as single arrays. The result was higher cluster utilization, much simpler workflow development (where thousands of individual jobs could be treated as one), and faster genomics analysis, significantly improving user-friendliness and research throughput for Toulouse Genopole.
