A Altair Knowledge Works Case Study
Prodrive, a leading motorsports engineering firm founded in 1984 and builder of nearly 400 Aston Martin GT cars, faced a data challenge: its legacy analytics couldn’t cope with the massive amounts of sensor data produced by modern race and test programs (roughly 0.5 TB per race weekend and 5–10 TB per week in testing). The team needed a scalable platform to analyze long-term engine lifecycles, detect component degradation, and support fast, actionable insights to optimize pit strategy and inform design and manufacturing improvements.
Prodrive implemented Altair Panopticon for real-time and historical stream processing and visualization, replacing slow, code-heavy custom tools with dashboards engineers can build without IT. Panopticon enabled automatic anomaly detection and full-lifecycle analysis (e.g., 15,000-km engine datasets) and delivered tangible results—clearer trend analysis, quicker fault diagnosis (such as identifying a gearbox duct issue at the 2022 24 Hours of Daytona), faster repairs, and improved race performance and product development.
