Modell’s Ups its Game with Self-service Data Prep

Modell’s Sporting Goods, America’s oldest family-owned sporting goods retailer with over 150 stores across the Northeast, faced a major data challenge: critical sales, inventory and transactional information was trapped in a mainframe accessible only via Lotus 1-2-3, requiring manual reformatting and slow, error-prone processes that hindered timely retail decisions.

Modell’s implemented Altair Monarch for self-service data preparation and now uses it across finance, inventory, accounts payable, sales auditing and operations—producing 200+ reports a month and supporting more than 20 employees with Paltenstein’s models. Monarch eliminated manual rekeying, streamlined data extraction and merging, surfaced anomalies more quickly, and delivered significant time savings and improved decision-making.
