National Consumer Panel (NCP), a joint venture of Circana and NielsenIQ, collects longitudinal consumer purchase data to inform retailers and manufacturers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, panelist reporting fell and behaviors changed due to stockouts, shopping restrictions, and fewer trips, so NCP needed to validate whether lower reporting reflected real behavior and quickly combine structured quantitative data with unstructured panelist feedback.
NCP adopted Altair RapidMiner (Al Studio) to apply machine learning and text analytics (TextMiner/NLP) to verbatim feedback, identify drivers of participation, and create targeted segments and incentives. The changes—including a “Did Not Shop” code and tailored communications—boosted response rates by 50%, reduced churn, restored panelist participation to pre-COVID levels within two months, and improved overall KPIs.
