Car Rental Giant Modernizes Rental Contract Process, Increases Data Accuracy and Improves Customer Service

Avis, a global car rental brand with roughly 5,500 locations, faced operational problems at the franchise level when an owner of 30 northern New Jersey locations struggled with a cumbersome legacy rental system. The old setup made check-in, signature capture, fleet tracking and cross-location returns difficult to manage, and routine contract changes required time-consuming C-code recompilation and complex client installations.

Farber Consulting built a web-based Avis Rental Contract Manager using Alpha Anywhere, linking the app to Avis’s mainframe and MS SQL 2012, enabling touchscreen signature capture, off-the-shelf PCs, failover replication, and mobile support. The solution reduced hardware and maintenance costs, simplified updates, improved stability (no outages since launch), increased performance (reported up to 100x), enabled better data accuracy and storage of contracts as SVG, and materially improved customer service.
