PALFINGER Minimizes Off-Cuts Thanks To Alma’s Software

Palfinger, a global manufacturer of lifting solutions, cranes, tail lifts, and related equipment, processes around 20,000 tons of high-tensile steel panels each year. As its product range grew, the company needed to handle a rising number and variety of sheet metal parts while reducing off-cuts and moving beyond manual nesting, which depended heavily on operator expertise. To address this, Palfinger selected Alma CAM’s act/cut CAD/CAM software.

Alma CAM implemented automatic nesting across multiple plants and integrated act/cut with Palfinger’s ERP/SAP order control and cutting machines. The solution reduced nesting time by roughly 50% and made results far more consistent, with automatic nesting nearly matching experienced manual users. Palfinger also reported that some orders now take only one third of the operator’s time, enabling the same team to process more orders and better control off-cut rates, which typically range from 25% to 30%.
