Keppel FELS, through Keppel Nantong Shipyard, needed a way to handle very specific nesting and cutting requirements for its design and construction of special high-tech engineering vessels. Using Intergraph SmartPlant 3D for design, the customer looked for a solution that could integrate smoothly with its existing workflow, and turned to Alma CAM’s act/cut after the companies developed a bi-directional interface between SmartPlant 3D and act/cut.

Alma CAM implemented act/cut to let Keppel Nantong import all parts from SmartPlant 3D at once, while still allowing geometry and machining changes. The solution also delivered powerful nesting algorithms that saved time and effort and improved material usage by reducing waste and steel consumption.
