A AllyCAD Case Study
Buffalo City Municipality needed a better way to capture and manage vast amounts of spatial and service data across a 2,500-square-kilometre area serving about 1,000,000 clients. GIS Manager Phil Farrant introduced AllyCAD as a feeder to the municipality’s existing GIS environment to help accurately map services such as sewers, water, roads, and electricity, but the organization faced staffing and resource constraints as it converted legacy drawings into a comprehensive GIS model.
AllyCAD provided the geometry and construction tools Buffalo City Municipality needed to position infrastructure precisely and export shapefiles directly into GIS, improving control and supporting the municipality’s IDP planning process. Using AllyCAD, the municipality has converted most of its line drawings, accelerated GIS integration across departments, made services viewable on the intranet, and earned a Special Achievements in GIS award at the 2004 ESRI user conference.
