Kobe Electric Railway - Customer Case Study

Kobe Electric Railway, a railway company serving 46 stations in Hyogo, Japan, needed to upgrade an aging inter-station remote network that was struggling with rising data traffic, stricter surveillance needs, and the requirement to keep service running 24/7 even during nightly maintenance shutdowns. The company wanted a solution that was reliable, high-performing, future-proof, easy to manage, and cost-effective, and chose Allied Telesis to help modernize the network.

Allied Telesis implemented a resilient network built around x900 Series switches, VCStack, link aggregation, and EPSR ring technology, with AT-FS926M switches in unmanned stations. The new design delivered fast failover in as little as 50 ms, simplified management with virtual chassis operation, and provided enough bandwidth for current ticketing and station systems while preparing for future image and audio applications. As a result, Kobe Electric Railway achieved uninterrupted service, improved traffic handling, lower operational complexity, and reduced total cost of ownership.
