Chunghwa System Integration Co., Ltd. worked with Allied Telesis to help Kaohsiung City modernize its network for smarter IoT services. The city needed a future-proof, reliable infrastructure for smart street lighting and related applications such as security cameras, vehicle identification, air quality and flood sensors, public notifications, and WiFi in a harsh outdoor environment.

Allied Telesis provided ruggedized IE300 Series Industrial Ethernet Layer 3 Switches with OpenFlow support, along with EPSRing for resilient city-wide connectivity. The solution created a stable, centrally managed SDN network that supports smart street lights, helps automate parking and environmental monitoring, and improves public safety; it also automatically reports around 9,000 street light faults per year so repairs can be handled faster and with less administration.
