Always Open, Always On: Upgrade Achieves Reliable Connectivity for Convenience Stores

Big C, a retail giant headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, needed a reliable, always-on network for its 24/7 Mini Big C convenience stores. Each store depended on stable connectivity for POS terminals, wireless access points, and server-based inventory and delivery applications, so the company looked for a durable and cost-effective replacement for its existing Cisco switches.

Allied Telesis supplied 300 CentreCom FS980M/28 Fast Ethernet Managed Access Switches, one for each Mini Big C store, providing secure, fully managed connectivity for payments and store operations. The deployment has run smoothly with no issues since installation, improved reliability across 300 locations, and reduced maintenance costs thanks to the five-year warranty. Big C now plans to buy another 300 to 400 switches per year and is considering additional Allied Telesis L2 and L3 solutions for new stores.
