A Allied Telesis Case Study
Shrewsbury School, one of Britain’s leading independent schools, needed a secure, high-performance network that could support growing BYOD demands from students and staff while maintaining strong control over access. Its existing infrastructure struggled to keep up with rising bandwidth needs and security concerns as more smartphones, tablets, and laptops connected to the network. Allied Telesis was selected to help address these challenges with a new site-wide Ethernet network.
Allied Telesis implemented a resilient solution built around stacked SwitchBlade x908 core switches, x610 fiber distribution switches, x510 iSCSI interconnects, and 8000S Series edge switches with 802.1X security. The network also used port-based authentication with Active Directory and dynamic VLAN assignment to allow flexible, device-based access. As a result, Shrewsbury School gained a bespoke network with 24/7 uptime, higher speeds for hundreds of users, stronger security, and better use of existing infrastructure, enabling a secure and flexible BYOD strategy.
