ACM speeds publishing by months with Alley

The Association for Computing Machinery (acm) sought to transform its print-first publication, Communications of the ACM, into a modern, digital-first website that was fully open to the public. This required a new platform to improve internal workflows, enhance content discoverability, and meet accessibility standards. Alley was engaged to provide a range of services including audience research, design, and development on WordPress to address these challenges.

Alley implemented a digital-first publishing workflow, built a custom XML parser to migrate complex scholarly content, and designed a modern, responsive site. The solution included a member authentication system and improved site architecture to reduce cognitive load for visitors. As a result, acm can now publish articles online as they are approved, making content timely and accessible months faster than the previous print-based process. Alley continues to support the site with ongoing maintenance and new features.
