World Surf League processes 100 data points per second with AllCloud

World Surf League (WSL) faced the challenge of bringing modern data analytics to the unpredictable environment of professional surfing. Unlike stadium-based sports, competitions occur offshore in remote locations with no infrastructure, Wi-Fi, or reliable connectivity, and decades of historical data were trapped in disparate physical and digital formats. The WSL partnered with AllCloud and AWS to overcome these barriers and build a first-of-its-kind data platform.

AllCloud implemented a solution where surfers' wearable devices stream real-time biometric and wave data to the AWS cloud via Amazon Kinesis. This data was consolidated in Amazon Redshift and made queryable through natural language using Amazon Bedrock, enabling commentators to generate instant narrative insights. The results transformed the fan and commentator experience with data-driven storytelling and gave athletes unprecedented performance analytics, all while scaling to process approximately 100,000 waves per season.
