Northwell Health engaged Align to conduct a Data Center Optimization Study & Migration Program after an audit showed less than 60% utilization of physical cabinet space. Align was asked to produce a feasibility plan and workshops within a tight timeline to demonstrate how to maximize cabinets, power and cooling to achieve above 80% utilization and to support an ROI for consolidation phases.

Align delivered two consolidation options and supporting deliverables (executive summary, ROI analysis for 3- and 5-year horizons, migration plan, future-state design and best-practice methods). Option 1—redesigning the core switch fabric—would allow removal of 35 cabinets and about $3.9M in savings over five years; Option 2 offered removal of 26 cabinets and roughly $2.7M in five-year savings. Align’s plan and transparency helped kick off numerous projects across Northwell’s business units, reducing time, cost and risk associated with the consolidations.
