String Theory YoYos - Customer Case Study

String Theory YoYos, a Plano, Texas maker of high-performance yo-yos, set out to design the Remnant: a professional-grade yo-yo requiring tight tolerances, precise geometry and optimized weight distribution to maximize spin time and stability. Founder Mark Mankiewicz used Alibre Design 3D CAD software to model the complex physics, iterate prototypes and ensure the design met regulatory and performance constraints.

Using Alibre, Mark performed cross-sectional weight distribution analysis, designed the bearing seat, grooves for silicone pads, fillets for comfort, and iterated virtual prototypes that matched machined parts to within 0.5 grams. The result is a precision-machined, rim-weighted Remnant with improved stability and maximum spin time that passed extensive testing—Alibre enabled faster, accurate prototyping and predictable real-world results for String Theory YoYos.
