Modular Packaging Technologies (MPT), a San Diego-based maker of automatic pouching systems for sterile medical devices, needed to move from 2D AutoCAD to a 3D workflow that would support frequent customer-driven customization, sheet-metal construction, and easy file exchange with suppliers — all without the high cost of larger CAD packages. President Chuck Malnar selected Alibre and its Alibre Design Expert software to meet those needs.
Alibre delivered a parametric, top-down 3D solution with robust sheet‑metal tools and strong interoperability; adding Alibre’s CAM add-on let MPT send designs straight to the plasma cutter and achieve cuts within 10 thousandths of an inch. The switch to Alibre improved design speed and accuracy, reduced manual DXF work, and made it easier for MPT to communicate proposals to customers, giving the small company a measurable production and competitive advantage.
