CNC Clear Cut started when CEO Paul van Niekerk needed a CNC plasma cutter but couldn’t afford one, so he and his son Kevin built a prototype in 2007. To evolve that garage-built machine into a manufacturable product they needed an affordable 3D CAD tool, so Kevin adopted Alibre Design to create, test and document parts and assemblies.

Alibre Design gave CNC Clear Cut a low-cost, easy-to-learn CAD solution that let them assemble full machines virtually, make rapid design changes, and avoid multiple costly physical iterations. Within a year of learning Alibre Design they completed a new prototype, contracted a factory, sold their first units, and by February of the second year secured six orders; they went on to develop Africa’s first 5‑axis plasma table and now bundle Alibre with their equipment as part of their growing service and training business.
