Wine.com Drives Attribute-based Product Recommendations to Improve Personalization and Increase Revenue Per Click

Wine.com, a million-bottle online wine retailer based in San Francisco, needed to quickly develop, test, and measure new recommendation strategies that leveraged real-time customer data without building out heavy IT infrastructure. To address this, Wine.com partnered with Algonomy and used Algonomy Recommend™ to access customer maps (browse and purchase history, loyalty, preferences) and run custom algorithms.

Using Algonomy Recommend™, Wine.com deployed a “similar products” strategy that ranked recommendations by the number of shared wine attributes and moved from concept to production in hours. The Algonomy-powered test delivered about $5 per click—one of Wine.com’s best revenue-per-click strategies—and gave the team rapid, self-service SQL-driven experimentation and minimal IT overhead to iterate further.
