Case Study: ShipStation achieves 2.5 billion annual search queries and 2 ms average response time with Algolia

A Algolia Case Study

Preview of the ShipStation Case Study

Rapid growth requires rapid search that scales to over 2.5 billion annual searches

ShipStation, a rapidly growing Austin-based provider of web-based shipping software for e-commerce sellers, needed a faster, more user-friendly way for customers and staff to find orders across vast data sets. Their initial SQL-based search was slow, clunky (with 20+ separate fields), and couldn't deliver relevant results at scale as the business and order volume exploded.

Within weeks ShipStation implemented Algolia’s search API to provide a single, federated search box that returns relevant order results in milliseconds. The solution required little maintenance, supports both customer-facing and internal use, and scaled with ShipStation’s growth—Algolia handled 2.5 billion queries across 705 million records in 2019 with an average response time of ~2 ms, while ShipStation grew from ~4,000 to over 75,000 customers.
