AllTrails Uses Algolia to deliver offline search to their users no matter where they are

AllTrails, a San Francisco–based guide to the outdoors with 50,000+ hand‑curated trail guides and millions of users, needed to let hikers find and filter the perfect trail (by difficulty, length, dog/kid/accessibility, etc.) even when they were offline or on unreliable mobile networks. Their in‑house mobile offline solution was hard to maintain and didn’t match the desktop experience.

AllTrails integrated Algolia Offline into their iOS and Android apps—implemented in under a month (two weeks development, one week server configuration)—to provide seamless online/offline search with filters, synonyms and typo tolerance. The rollout delivered fast, consistent results at scale: 14 million monthly search requests and a 16 ms median response time, enabling reliable trail discovery in remote locations.
