A Algolia Case Study
Under Armour, the Baltimore-based maker of athletic apparel, footwear and accessories, relied on an in-house, open-source site search built and maintained by a small group of developers. When key team members moved to other roles, the product team struggled to adapt search in real time to changing customer behavior and needed a more maintainable, insight-driven solution for its North America sites.
In 2017 Under Armour implemented Algolia—using InstantSearch/Type‑Ahead, Query Rules, Analytics and dedicated customer support—so non‑developers could tune rankings, surface popular/new/in-stock items, and eliminate no‑result queries. After A/B testing, the result was faster, more relevant search experiences and a 35% higher conversion rate for customers who used search; Under Armour’s B2B site also adopted the solution.
