The FAA’s IT Shared Services Strategy Takes Flight with Alfresco and NDi

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) partnered with Network Designs, Inc. (NDi) and Alfresco (a Hyland company) to replace an aging, fragmented document management landscape. The FAA faced many disparate repositories, growing maintenance costs, and a backlog of requests for document-management capabilities, driving the need for a centralized, enterprise-grade solution.

NDi implemented an Enterprise Document Management Service (EDMS) built on the Alfresco Digital Business Platform as a PaaS in the FAA’s AWS community cloud, with standardized governance, APIs, and scalable RDS/S3 storage. The shared-service approach enabled rapid onboarding (the Office of Rulemaking’s RIMS in two days), consolidated contracts, decommissioned legacy systems, reduced costs, and established a growing pipeline of enterprise customers.
