Case Study: Scania achieves enterprise-wide knowledge sharing and secure collaboration with Alfresco

A Alfresco Case Study

Preview of the Scania Case Study

Scania makes it easy for knowledge workers around the world to collaborate and exchange knowledge

Scania, a global manufacturer of trucks, buses and engines with operations in 100+ countries and roughly 41,000 employees, needed a reliable enterprise content platform to let knowledge workers — including external suppliers, distributors and dealers — find, share and collaborate on documents. A previous file‑sharing system fell short, risking users turning to insecure consumer tools; the company therefore sought an open, user‑friendly solution with flexible licensing that could span internal and external networks.

After evaluating options Scania chose Alfresco for its open standards, extensibility and deployment flexibility, implementing it for 5,000 users in under four weeks and migrating 20,000 documents. The platform now powers cross‑functional projects, forums and extranets that enable distributors and dealers to collaborate, with plans to scale to ~40,000 internal users; the result is faster, more secure knowledge sharing and a central service that staff and partners can use to create their own collaboration models.
