Case Study: Rational Retention achieves scalable, end-to-end records retention and up to 50% e-discovery cost savings with Alfresco

A Alfresco Case Study

Preview of the Rational Retention Case Study

Rational Retention utilized Alfresco to deliver an end-to-end record retention and e-discovery application

Rational Retention (RR) builds software that enforces retention policies and automates e‑discovery by identifying, classifying and managing unstructured content across desktops, file shares, e‑mail servers and document systems. From its founding, RR needed a complete, end‑to‑end solution—records and document management, an internal and hosted litigation repository, and affordable, modern capabilities that some customers required in a single, centrally managed system.

RR selected Alfresco’s modern Java platform to provide DoD 5015.2‑compliant records management, workflow, version control, advanced search and CIFS/WebDAV integration. RR’s agents extract metadata and text, automatically migrate content into Alfresco, enforce retention policies across the enterprise and defensibly destroy expired copies. The combined solution delivered a highly scalable, integrated record lifecycle and e‑discovery system, cutting e‑discovery and compliance costs (up to ~50%), shortening time to ROI and offering a unique end‑to‑end capability in the market.
