New York Property Insurance Underwriting Association Hits Homerun with Alfresco and TSG

The New York Property Insurance Underwriting Association (NYPIUA), founded in 1968 to provide basic property insurance to consumers unable to find coverage in the voluntary market, was overwhelmed by paper—50 full-time employees managing over 50,000 policies a year. Daily influxes of mail, manual scanning and redaction of checks and sensitive data, a legacy document system that forced paper notes and complicated coding, and paper inboxes across two offices made file access slow and risky and left the organization vulnerable to disaster.

With Technology Services Group, NYPIUA implemented Alfresco with TSG’s HPI, OpenContent and OpenMigrate plus a high‑volume scanner to automate ingestion, auto-generate claim folders, ingest email, and enable digital redaction. Employees were using the system within two weeks, and organization-wide use of HPI and Alfresco has streamlined workflows, improved collaboration and productivity, sped processing of policies and claims, and provided safer, replicated access across offices—a solution the association calls a “homerun.”
