Lantik, S.A., the public IT services provider for the Provincial Council of Bizkaia (serving 1.2 million citizens across 112 municipalities), faced a complex document‑management problem: sensitive government images and records were spread across three repositories to support legacy COBOL and Java applications, creating duplicates, security and cost concerns. Lantik needed an open source, consolidated repository to simplify infrastructure, reduce costs and centralize content management.

After evaluating options, Lantik implemented Alfresco with partner Varios, migrating more than one million documents and redirecting both COBOL and Java apps to the new platform. Today Alfresco is the single repository for Bizkaia, supporting about 10,000 users and over 100 million documents, delivering significant productivity gains, fast ROI (reported annual savings over 50%), improved security and a foundation for further digital transformation and richer metadata.
