A Alfresco Case Study
The U.S. Army Publishing Directorate (APD), which manages the Army’s centralized publications and forms, was hindered by a costly, outdated content management system that forced staff to rely on error-prone workarounds and required a full-time employee to keep nine databases in sync. These inefficiencies created bottlenecks across the publication lifecycle and threatened the organization’s ability to manage growing document volumes.
Working with the Army’s ALTESS organization and implementation partner Prometheus, APD deployed Hyland’s Alfresco Digital Business Platform (ACS, APS, AGS, ADF), delivering initial capability in under five months and full capability in nine. The solution retired legacy tools, added integrated workflows, a custom metadata API, advanced search, role-based controls and ATO support—resulting in a 40% faster publication cycle, one-third reduction in IT infrastructure, improved productivity and scalability to support an expected three million documents.
