Case Study: Ethias achieves content modernization and 50% TCO reduction with Alfresco Content Services

A Alfresco Case Study

Preview of the Ethias Case Study

Belgian insurer goes from legacy storage to a content platform fit for modern organizations

Ethias, Belgium’s third-largest insurer with 1,800 employees, 40 regional offices and over a million customers, needed to modernize content management after its legacy Documentum archive (57 million records) became costly to maintain and hampered document access, collaboration, insight generation and regulatory responsiveness. The outdated system blocked new revenue opportunities and slowed internal processes, making a secure, scalable content platform a business priority.

Ethias selected Alfresco Content Services with partner XeniT and executed a fast, careful migration and integration program. They moved 57 million documents in under three months, enriched metadata, added stronger security and API integrations (Guidewire, Salesforce), and enabled OCR and faster digital processes. The platform now manages about 70 million documents, scales for heavy user interaction, supports GDPR queries, delivered payback in under 12 months and cut total cost of ownership by roughly 50%, freeing Ethias to focus on customer-facing innovation.
