Queensland Health turned to Alessa, by Tier1 Financial Solutions, after major weaknesses in its budgetary controls were exposed by an insider fraud case that resulted in nearly $17 million being siphoned off over four years. The agency needed a better way to detect suspicious activity in its vendor master data and prevent unauthorized payments.

Alessa was implemented to automate daily vendor matching and monitoring across Queensland Health’s finance system, including checks for ABNs, GST status, duplicate vendors, stale vendors, and repeated changes to bank details or vendor status. The system now flags issues overnight and sends alerts to the Vendor Master Team for next-day review, with unresolved items escalating to senior management, helping Queensland Health strengthen controls and detect problems much faster.
